Springs Hosting Deploys New Windows Shared Hosting Servers Based on Enkompass by cPanel

Colorado Springs, CO; May 2nd, 2011, Springs Hosting, a leading provider of Managed IT Services for medium to large businesses, announced today that it has deployed Enkompass by cPanel and has officially added the Windows-based hosting product to its growing list of web and email hosting services.

In development for more than a year, Enkompass is built to run on Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 R2 and represents the latest additon to cPanel’s growing suite of web hosting control panels and automation solutions, which have previously focused exclusively on Linux – and FreeBSD – based servers.

“We’ve been working with several windows hosting platforms and selected Enkompass as our primary shared windows platform after several months of testing,” said Kelly Karnetsky of Springs Hosting. “Because our customers are already familiar with the cPanel/WHM interface there is only a slight learning curve for customers that require windows hosting for ASP.NET applications and Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Infrastructure Migration Completed

On July 23, 2010, Springs Hosting announced that the process of migrating all client accounts to the new server infrastructure has been completed. The improved infrastructure will allow Springs Hosting to enhance support for customers and scale several new products introduced in 2010.

“All accounts are now running on the new equipment and can be accessed through the account management portal,” stated CIO Jeremy Keefe. “We are very proud of the stability and scalability of our platform. In addition to new servers, Springs Hosting has expanded on our existing services and deployed many new services to our customers.”

“The migration didn’t happen overnight, but rather a process over the past six months with extensive planning. Several new web based tools have been developed to allow our clients to easily update and manage their web presence online,” said Kelly Karnetsky, Cloud Specialist at Springs Hosting. “We strive to empower our clients with online tools to facilitate a positive web experience and enable them to expand their online presence.”

cPanel Servers Deployed

On March 9, 2009, Springs Hosting officially launched its new cPanel clusters of shared hosting servers. “The move has been prompted by Parallel’s continued reduction in release patches for Hsphere and frankly it was time for us to move,” said Jeremy Keefe CIO at Springs Hosting. “The new account management system enables our customers additional control over their accounts, domains and services. Putting our customers in the drivers seat with complete control over their services is one of our primary objectives.”

“The migration of customer accounts to the new systems will take Springs Hosting several more months to complete. The process has been underway since December of 2009 and nearly half of our shared hosting customers have been moved to the new systems,” said Kelly Karnetsky at Springs Hosting. “We look forward to serving our customers through the new platforms that provide many new services without any additional costs to our customers.”

R1Soft technology for backups adopted

On November 14, 2008, Springs Hosting adopted R1Soft to replace the existing backup systems for hosting servers, colocation, and dedicated server clients. R1Soft’s Continuous Data Protection enables disk-based data protection and disaster recovery for Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It works by reading your hard disk volumes at the sector level and bypasses the file system for the ultimate in performance and recovery. Bare Metal Backups allow Springs Hosting to restore any machine from complete failure of the system to a completely new hardware server. Using end to end strong encryption allows Springs Hosting to leverage the use of R1Soft to remotely backup systems for clients off site in our safe and secure data center.

Hosting Servers move to new Data Center

On November 2, 2008, the Springs Hosting Web and Email Hosting servers move to our new Data Center at 1205 Shasta Dr. The end result is a massive increase in bandwidth as our new Data Center proudly operates two completely redundant OC-48 lines to the internet backbone as well as plenty of space for growth within the facility. Companies that require colocation and rack space can take advantage of this move as it makes Springs Hosting one of the largest Data Center providers in southern colorado with plenty of raised floor space to expand!

What is an OC-48? “OC-48 is a network line with transmission speeds of up to 2488.32 Mbit/s (payload: 2405.376 Mbit/s; overhead: 82.944 Mbit/s). With usually cheap interface prices and being faster than OC-3, OC-12 connections, and even surpassing gigabit Ethernet, OC-48 connections are used as the backbones of many regional ISPs. Interconnections between large ISPs for purposes of peering or transit are quite common. As of 2005, the only connections in widespread use that surpass OC-48 speeds are OC-192 and 10 gigabit Ethernet. OC-48 is also used as transmission speed for tributaries from OC-192 nodes in order to optimize card slot utilization where lower speed deployments are used. Dropping at OC-12, OC-3 or STS-1 speeds are more commonly found on OC-48 terminals, where use of these cards on an OC-192 would not allow for full use of the available bandwidth.”

Official support for PHP4 ends, PHP5 takes over the reins officially

On August 8, 2008, “marked the (EOL) end of life for PHP4, which has been in stable release since May of 2000. With the release of PHP 4.4.9, official support has ended and the final security patch for the platform issued. Web hosts and web developers across the net have now lost another reason not to upgrade their development and support environments to current generation tools. With PHP 5 offering a viable upgrade path for the last few years, the recommendation is for administrators and developers is to move to the PHP 5 platform (if they haven’t already done so), which is currently at 5.2.6.”

**Fortunately, if your PHP website is hosted through Springs Hosting, then you have been on PHP5 since at least the middle of 2007 and are currently running the latest PHP 5.2.6 so this news won’t affect your website!
